Become A Better Filmmaker at the
    CiAO Monthly Meeting for August

Meeting Friday the 5th at 6:30 pm

In this Alert:

• What day of the week is best for you to attend CiAO meetings?
• Location of the August Monthly Meeting this Friday.
• Show Us Your Shorts! Film Festival Update
• Summer/Fall Local Productions Information

The meeting will be at Mountain Mike's Pizza at 1722 Mangrove Ave #28. (in the Kinko's-Fed Ex shopping strip mall between E. 9th Ave. & E. 7th Ave.) [Phone #: 893-1923] Here is a link to a map: Google MAP

Shawn and Jim have moved to their new NQH office (over behind K-Mart and the Best Western Plus Heritage Inn Hotel on Cohassett Rd.), but they haven't moved in yet. So we'll see about having a meeting there at a later date.

It seems that meeting attendance changed from an average of a dozen people per meeting to half a dozen people when we changed from Monday's to Friday's. Let us know what the best day of the week would be for you. Please reply to this e-mail.

Although we enjoy meeting at the NQH office, and appreciate Shawn & Jim letting us use it, it might be better to meet at the Chico Public Library in their meeting room. It is not available on Friday's. It may not always be available on the first and third week-days of each month. In fact, meetings might have to be on available days that could be on any day. With appropriate meeting notice, this might work. And it might be good for people who can only attend meetings on certain days, since the days (of week) would probably change according to room availability. The space is also large enough for workshopping, showing films, presentations, and other activities. We might also want to reduce to one meeting per month.

Let us know what you think.

The First Annual 2011 Show Us Your Shorts! Film Festival is Thursday of next week through the weekend. Set aside the weekend of August 11 thru 13 (Thurs. – Sat.) for attendance. Check out the website for more information.
www.ShowUsYourShorts.org
And/or see us at Chico's Thursday Night Market August 4th. NQH is sharing their booth with us to promote the festival, CiAO, and themselves. FREE Zombie Makeup / Face Painting!

Scott Brown recently returned from L.A. and the week-long, 400-film AOF (Action On Film) festival, where the Team CiAO zombie-genre horror short, "The Chosen", played on a big screen theater. According to Scott "the screening was well attended and the festival itself was a blast!" This film will play Thursday night (Day 1) and Saturday at our SUYS!FF. (on a smaller large screen) Hope to see you there. Spread the Word!
You can also Watch The Chosen online. (the fest will premiere a corrected audio version with better sound)

Summer/Fall Local Productions Information:

• Writer / Director / Producer / Filmmaker Popeye Theophilus Barrnumb will probably be creating a short film-like audition tape for Robert Donnelly to be entered into the casting call audition contest for the in production indie web series, "The Gunrunner Billy Kane". The L.A.-based series is self-described as falling under the Steampunk & Science Fiction genres. The storyline revolves around a rogue professor who runs guns to fund dangerous human experiments that three superpowers believe may change the balance of Global Military Power. Mad Max meets Frankenstein. (which implies a post-apocalyptic genre, as well)

• Writer / Director / Makeup & Special Effects Artist / Producer / Filmmaker Heidi Moore is in development / pre-production of a Troma-esque short film. ( see Troma Films ) She plans on possibly shooting it in the next few months. We will provide more information as it becomes available.

• Production on James Smith's latest indie short film, Ralphie II (a sequel to Ralphie) is completed. They hope to finish post-production in time to premiere the film at our Chico Show Us Your Shorts! Film Festival next week.

NQH also recently completed a 20-second TV advertising commercial spot for the 2011 Slice of Chico event, and a music video for the band Brass Hysteria!

• There will be at least one more local short film production this year, probably around a late-August / September timeframe. Shawn Dyer is in pre-production of Fly. The production is looking for crew. Contact them if you are interested.

• Joe Batt is planning on making more Spot On Movie Reviews By Amazing People. (contact Joe if you are interested in doing one (acting and/or writing) and/or helping out in some way)

• Joshua Siegel's indie short film, "A Midsummer Nightmare: The Betrayal", is now in post-production. They may still be looking for a 3D modeler / designer for key effects for the film. Check out their facebook page for the most recent news and updates, including a recent first look at some footage with temporary sound effects, music, and color grading:

• Two short advertising commercials / infomercials / webmercials for a local business are under consideration.

• We have little information on the Pelican House Production that has completed principal photography in the Gridley (/Chico) area. This production was apparently a "real" indie short, up from L.A., and had actress Janeane Garofalo as one of its talent.

If you are planning something, please let us know.
