Monthly meeting for September pushed back.

And an update on filmmaking in the local area.

The monthly meeting for September would normally be Friday the 2nd, but we are going to push it back to later in the month due to the Labor Day holiday. And we will probably change the day from Fridays to the first and third Monday of each month. This next month the meetings will probably be on Monday the 12th and 26th. (let us know if this is a bad day for you)

In this Alert:

• Local actor, Robert Donnelly, wins audition and part in indie film
• Semi-official announcement of the local 6:66 Horror Film Competition
• Summer/Fall Local Productions Information

Crowd-Sourced indie Film Extravaganza

Congratulations to Robert Donnelly for winning the audition for a role in the feature-length indie film / web series The Gunrunner Billy Kane. He traveled to L.A. and competed against seven other winners from the online contest, finally being chosen as the overall winner. Over the next few days, he filmed the role of The Rat for the film. (it will either be released as a feature-length indie film (ideally) or a web series). A diary of the process and his experiences is detailed on his new website. (under construction)

(thank you again to everyone who voted for him!)

Note that they are having two more contests. (related & occurring simultaneously) One is for an Actor, like the last contest, and the other is for a Guest Director. So check out their website and get your creative juices flowing. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. (although we will hopefully be seeing more of this kind of thing in the future — NOTE: budget for the film is guesstimated to be somewhere between $30K and $100K)

6:66 Horror Film Competition

Several people showed interest in the upcoming local 6:66 Horror Film Competition, so we will most likely be going ahead with it. Look for an announcement very soon. Films will need to be 7 minutes and 6 seconds in length, or less. Since it is a horror film competition, the genre should be horror-ish, and G to PG to R rated. Prizes may possibly total $100 — $50 for first place, $35 for second place, and $15 for third place. A $10 entry fee will be required. We want to show the films Saturday, October 29 at The Pageant Theatre. All of this information may change up to the final official announcement. (and possibly thereafter)

Summer/Fall Local Productions Information:

• Filmmaker Heidi Moore has completed principal photography of her Troma-esque indie short film, The Boyfriend, and is now in post production. A small cast and crew shot the film over this last weekend in Chico using a Canon 5D DSLR. (cinematographer Ionel Diaconescu came up from the Bay Area to participate)

• Filmmaker Popeye Theophilus Barrnumb shot a short, 'extended', film-like audition video for Robert Donnelly, which was entered into the casting call audition contest for the in-production indie feature-length film / web series, The Gunrunner Billy Kane. (see above for more info) The GBK filmmakers thought the simulated truck movement 'looked real', so that was a nice complement. (the rules stated that you could not drive a vehicle, for safety reasons, and if it hadn't been announced in the video that "no vehicles were driven", they said they would have disqualified the entry for the drive-up and drive-away shots, which were dolly-tracks using a bicycle-pod rig as a DIY super-indie dolly)

• Production on James Smith's latest indie short film, Ralphie II (a sequel to Ralphie) is in final post. Those who attended the Show Us Your Shorts! Film Festival in Chico a couple of weeks ago got to see a rough cut of the film that didn't look very rough. Easily one of NQH's best films to date. Congratulations.

• Filmmaker Shawn Dyer is in final pre-production on his next indie short film Fly. Principal photography starts Labor Day weekend and will shoot one or two days a weekend for several weeks.
