You are an actor!

and 4th Annual 2014 Shortz! Film Festival Call for Entries

You are an actor!

We are all actors. Read the CiAO "Actors" page for some important and valuable information for indie actors and local "non-actors" and indie filmmakers regarding being and using local "non-actors" in films.

Sections of the page include:

• Types of Actors — Indie and Otherwise (and local 'non-actors')
• The Show Business 'Acting Racket' (w/video featuring Tom Hanks)
• Acting Secrets?
• The Magic of Filmmaking
• Other Reasons Why People Make Indie Films
• A note to (indie) Directors, Casting Directors, and Acting Coaches
• Working with "non-actors"

The stance of the heart of the 'essay' was strengthened and validated (yet again) by the recent nomination and win of a Best Supporting Actor Oscar Academy Award by non-actor Barkhad Abdi for his work in Tom Hanks' award-winning film "Captain Phillips" (2013) as one of the Somali pirates.

It's that time of year again. The Chico-based Shortz! Film Festival has issued a Call for Entries for the 4th annual 2014 event, which will take place this year on September 12th–14th. Last day for late (non-early bird) film entry is usually sometime in July.

So there is still plenty of time to make your films.

The Shortz! Film Festival is an annual international short film festival in Chico, California which showcases the best and brightest short films from around the globe. The festival accepts and screens short films with running times of 40 minutes or less in any genre.

Created by local filmmakers from Chico, California, Shortz! was started with the desire to bring film makers together in a fun and funky environment, to meet and network with the ultimate goal of producing more films.
