I love the energy of an independent film set. No one is there for the money. Everyone is there 'cause they really want to be there. It makes all the difference in the world. It's without ego and agenda, other than just wanting to fulfill a creative dream. — Mamie Gummer

• CiAO Meetings Starting Again in 2015

I am starting the monthly meetings again. The first will be this Friday, February 6, at 6:00 pm, at the Round Table Pizza parlor on Forest Ave. (see map)

There are two very good reasons to start meetings again. For me, in some ways first and foremost, I miss the sharing of information and ideas, the encouragement and support we all gave each other, learning and teaching (we all have something to offer, we all have much to learn), the camaraderie, and the just plain fun of it all. We have a really good group of filmmakers in the Chico area, I don't think people realize how truly lucky we are in that regard. And we made something of a name for ourselves through our work and accomplishments.

Secondly, there had been a noticeable decline in the number of films being made in the Chico area over the last few years. This is unfortunate. Perhaps meetings will stir the pot and get people making films again.

The meetings were suspended for a time for a few reasons. One of them was lack of interest and meeting attendance. I'm hoping that has abated over time. If no one shows up, then I'll just have a snack and work on my writing for a few hours. But hopefully people will realize how important and valuable the meetings were, and how enjoyable. I hope to see some of the old gang there. And maybe some new faces. It's a good way to wind down after the week.

• Project Casting and The Walking Dead Spinoff Series

The Project Casting website is an interesting site chock full of mainstream filmmaking articles of interest. Check it out. One article discusses The Walking Dead Spinoff series details that were revealed in a leaked copy of the pilot script.

Robert Kirkman has revealed that the upcoming Walking Dead companion series, aka Cobalt will be "very different" from the original series. In fact, he is very serious about how different the show will be. But, besides setting the zombie apocalypse in Los Angeles instead of the Peach State (Georgia), how will the series be different. Well thanks to a leaked copy of The Walking Dead companion series script, we will get a glimpse of what we can expect. (see link) Warning: Possible Spoiler Alert

Don't forget that the second half of season 5 of The Walking Dead premieres on Sunday, February 8 on AMC.
